For more than 20 years, supporters and friends have gathered to hear how God continues to move in Eastern Iowa through the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. This year's message is both a celebration of where we have been, but more importantly a challenge to where we need to go. It is for those who already support FCA as well as for those who need to understand the incredible impact of this ministry. As we move into our third decade of programs, we will welcome Iowa State University faith coach RJ Sumrall. RJ is excited to share about the influence of FCA on Iowa State athletics. This is your opportunity to hear about one of the most successful athletic programs in the country, and how God is using coaches and athletes to create a culture of character and success.
RJ Sumrall is first and foremost a disciple of Jesus Christ. RJ is currently an FCA staff member and athletics faith coach at Iowa State University.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, RJ’s family moved to Winter Park, Florida where he was a multi-sport athlete. In 2004, RJ received the call to join the Iowa State football team as a wide receiver. Following a redshirt season, RJ had a breakout game at Nebraska in 2005, catching four passes for 99 yards, including a 60-yard catch and run.
By his Junior season, RJ became Iowa State’s top passing target, finishing eighth on the single season receiving list.
In 2008, RJ had a thousand-yard season with 99 catches, including a career high eight passes at Missouri and seven passes on consecutive weekends against Northern Iowa and Iowa.
RJ now resides in Ankeny, Iowa with his wife Steph and their four children. In additional to his duties as faith coach, RJ serves as the Development Director for Mid-Central FCA.
Eastern Iowa FCA celebrated its 20th Annual Night of Champions on April 14. 2024, at New Covenant Bible Church in Cedar Rapids, IA.
