A Word From Eastern Iowa FCA's New Area Director, Jake Leohr

Friends and Supporters of FCA, 


Jake Leohr here, and I am humbled and grateful to serve as the Area Director for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Eastern Iowa! 


I grew up in Iowa City without a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. That changed when I went to the University of South Dakota to play football, where teammates and a FCA staff member shared the Gospel with me. Through their influence, I came to know Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, and my life was forever transformed by His grace. 


After college, I spent several years in Colorado teaching, coaching, and serving in ministry. In 2022, my wife and I sensed God’s call to return to Iowa City. I joined the staff at Compass Church while pursuing seminary education, and now, by God’s grace, I am stepping into this new chapter with FCA. Right here in Eastern Iowa where I grew up not knowing the hope of Jesus. A full circle moment for me! 


FCA’s mission is simple and powerful: to lead every coach and athlete into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church. Our vision is to see the world transformed by Jesus through the influence of coaches and athletes. 


Looking ahead, here are some of our goals that we are putting before God for the next year: 

  • Grow the number of on campus coaches’ huddles. 
  • Explore launching FCA leagues in Eastern Iowa. 
  • Expand our staff team. 
  • Strengthen our local board. 
  • Increase the impact of events like the Night of Champions. 
  • Pray and discern our increased involvement in FCA’s global mission. 

We are asking God to raise up more partners in prayer, financial support, and service so that EVERY coach and athlete in Eastern Iowa has the opportunity to encounter the transforming power of Jesus Christ. You can directly help us reach these goals by joining us in prayer, giving financially, and connecting us with others who can help advance this mission.
